Challenge: Research and design an explainer piece about a topic or an event for a specific social audience. In this project, the focus is creating a data-backed visual to design an infographic.
My concept came to be when we were told to base this project off of something that is of interest to us, which for me is music. I decided to design a ad off of the Governor's Ball, a festival I attended in June. I wanted to bring it to life with a flyer that emphasizes the main subjects I associate Gov Ball with: the artists that the festival brings, and the fact that it takes place in NYC.
This strategy is what brought me to the idea of including famous monuments from NYC as the graphics that bring the flyer to life. I used a skill/style that I learned in high school, where tracing over an image with smaller shapes, in this instance triangles, gives it a “low-poly” look. I used a font that reminded me of graffiti-like paint for the cover to really draw the eye to the kind of vibe that I wanted to communicate: a music festival. Once I decided on this specific style, I kept it consistent throughout, as well as keeping a consistent color palette based on the colors used for the images.
